Cancun - Day 3 - Rain and Weddings

We forgot to mention on previous posts that we have to wear these yellow bracelets the ENTIRE time we're staying at this resort. It's what identifies us to the hotel that we're "all-inclusive" so that we can get our food, drinks, activities all for free. It's nice, but these bracelets are like we're at Cherry Hill, or Splash Mountain, and they're kind of poky and scratchy, especially where the band is sealed together and then cut - and I've scratched myself with it a couple of times while showering and it's unpleasant! And, if we happen to lose it, or if it falls off or breaks and we have to ask the hotel for a new one, they said they'll charge us $100 USD to replace it. WTF??? Anyway, we thought it was funny and wanted to add it to the posts.

So today was a rainy, lazy, indoor day. We woke this morning and then went to the Brazillian restaurant for breakfast, which was very good, but nearly the same as the breakfast at the Italian restaurant next door. They have the most delicious fresh fruits here and the Mango is especially yummy! We ate inside, but next to the window where the outside dining area was and it was fun to watch the birds (Cancun's version of a crow) sneak onto the tables and plates to steal food from the diners when they were inside restocking their breakfast supply at the buffet. I got a huge kick out of it and it made breakfast time really fun. After breakfast we moseyed around the resort and checked out both sides. The resort is 3 miles long from end to end and there are two different lobbies - the Nizuc side (that's our side) and the Sunrise side. After walking around today, we noticed that the Sunrise side is the fancier side - it's more decadent and formal - higher end. We discovered a seafood restaurant next to the Sunrise pool and decided we would go there for dinner. Back to the room, we sat on the balcony and watched several weddings happen in the cabana/kiosk across the way this afternoon. I think there were 3-4 weddings there that we saw. Each time, a horse and carriage would deliver the bride to the entrance to the cabana and then there was a mariachi band that would play the wedding march, La Bamba, various Mexican songs. It was kind of cute, kind of funny and we had fun watching lots of people get married today. Of course, I took some pictures :)

So after we watched the multi weddings today we ordered some room service for lunch and the room service here is very tasty. I had a fish fillet with a salad and a shrimp cocktail, and Stanley had a shrimp cocktail with a chef salad and we shared a piece of yummy chocolate cake. Then we took a nap and afterward Stanley went to the gym. While he was at the gym, I read on the balcony until a huge thunderstorm started and I had to move inside. It got really windy and rained pretty hard for about 30 minutes and then it cleared up. While we were watching the news tonight we saw that there was a huge tropical storm just West of here on the other side of the Yucatan Peninsula that flooded a lot of towns and areas. Wow - I thought that the tropical storm season didn't start until the fall??? And, we saw that the Midwest really got pounded today too with storms.

A little later we walked back to the Sunrise side and enjoyed the most delicious fish dinner we've ever had. They started us with an appetizer of kabob shrimp, then a breaded fish of some kind, and another kind of fishy thing on chips with mexican sauces. MMM!!! Then they brought us a salad that was mushrooms and lettuce with a viniagrette. And then, on a sizzling platter/tray they brought us tuna steak, mahi mahi, salmon, grouper, shrimp and veggies and OMG it was SOOO good. This fish food made Market Street look like Red Lobster or Long John Silvers. This was high end Boston or New York style seafood and we're thinking we want to eat there several more times before we head home. After the main course, they brought us Ice Cream and then gave Stanley a Cognac and me a Baileys on ice. A nice stroll along the beach on our way back to the room and I took a shower to wash off all the sunscreen and stickiness from the day. Because it rained here today, it was ultra humid and sticky, so a shower felt really nice.

Tomorrow morning we have to get up early to eat breakfast and then meet our bus to Chichen Itza. We're very excited!!!

Okay, so Lexie is so funny. I was changing the litter box and I added more kitty litter to it and covered it up. When I was cleaning the second box, Lexie climbed into her newly cleaned box and just sat in there. She never went potty and peaked her head out a couple times. After I was done cleaning the second box she jumped out. It was so funny!!! Anyway, have fun at Chichen Itza and make sure to take lots of pictures.
Love you both, E-Liz
