This day of our journey finds us at sea, not due for landfall in Venice until 7 AM tomorrow morning. This ship is bigger and fancier than the ferry from Brindisi to Patra. The views and food are also more lavish. Michele and I have enjoyed sleeping in, kicking back, taking it easy, reading and lounging in true vacation mode.
The Adriatic Sea is the part of the Mediterranean Sea located between the East coast of Italy and The West Coast of Greece -to the South- and all the lands of the former Yugoslavia to the north. We have just passed into the major open shipping channel from the interior passages of the Ionian islands (most famous are Crofu and Ithaca) now the troubled regions of Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia and the like lie to our east (the port side of the boat) and Italy to the west (starboard side). Venice is straight (18 hours)ahead and we are looking forward to our days there before heading home. ~S
Today was a long and lazy day. We slept in, woke and got ready in our super duper ferry bathroom, then made our way out into the ship to see what it was all about. There are a lot of people on this ship and most of them are either Greek, Italian or German and a good portion of them are teens and twentysomethings. It was 11:30 by the time we started wandering around and lunch was due to start until 12:30, so we found a place to sit out on deck while we read and waited. Finally about 1:00 we made our way to the cafeteria. This ship has two dining areas, one that serves restaurant style and the other that is served cafeteria style. We opted for the quicker pace of the cafeteria and the food was delicious. Scoring a spot at the front of the boat with big picture windows that look straight ahead out onto the ocean, we enjoyed our first meal on this leg of our trip. Mmm.
After lunch we found a great spot to sit in the bar where I enjoyed a “Minoan Special” (much like a mai-tai) and Stanley enjoyed his first Bloody Mary since our wedding day! Reading for a while I got sleepy so we went back to the cabin for a nap. How nice :)
After sleeping a couple of hours (long nap!) we made our way back to the deck where we sat by the pool and Stanley enjoyed one of his super cuban cigars and then we ate dinner again in the cafeteria and enjoyed a nice sunset. Back to the room we watched “Man Of The Year” with Robin Williams on Stanley’s computer with our dual headphones and jacks setup. It was an ok movie - they could have taken it a different direction and it would have been so much better. Oh well - we’re not Hollywood screen writers (maybe we should be :)).
Our cabin has little airflow and it gets very hot and muggy, so sleeping is difficult, but we are due to arrive in Venice at 7:00am tomorrow morning... only a few more hours to go!!! ~M
PS - Brandon - I MISS YOU SO MUCH!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU WHEN I GET HOME :)
